Color Experiments: Exploring the Impact of Color in Design

Hello, Thangs community!

When it comes to presenting my designs, I’ve always defaulted to black as my starting point. Black is timeless, elegant, and neutral—perfect for highlighting the form and functionality of a product without distraction. But as a designer, I’ve been increasingly fascinated by the power of color and its influence on perception, mood, and creativity.

Colors have a unique ability to evoke emotions and tell stories. A pop of bright yellow can convey energy and optimism, while a soft pastel blue brings calm and tranquility. A bold red grabs attention and creates excitement, whereas earthy tones like olive or terracotta evoke warmth and connection. These subtle cues can make all the difference when imagining how a product might fit into someone’s home or workspace.

For my recent experiments, I’ve been reimagining some of my designs in alternative color palettes. The goal is to inspire potential users and spark their creativity; helping them visualize these objects in their own environment. A sleek organizer in light gray might pair perfectly with modern desk setups, while a vibrant green vase could add life to a kitchen shelf.

From a presentation standpoint, color can also elevate a product’s perceived value. Monochrome palettes give a minimalist, high-end feel, while dynamic color combinations can make a design feel approachable and fun. Choosing the right color for a product is like adding the final touch, it ties the design together and amplifies its impact.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this:

  • What colors spark your imagination when you see a new product?
  • Are there specific palettes you’d like to see in my future models?

Thank you for being part of this journey, and I can’t wait to share more of these colorful experiments with you.

Cheers,
Juri
