Background update - I printed a giant Dummy 13!
Hey there folks, took some time to focus on printing after recent life stuff. I printed the 1.0 version of Dummy 13 (in PC no less!), which of course led me to design a couple of heads for it. Well, design one, and adapt the head of a Link model I'm working on. I didn't print the back of Link's hat because I haven't decided on the joint I want to use so that it can rotate out of the way.
Impressed with the model, a fae mood took me. I feverishly printed the full scale version featured in the title image. This was roughly a week long process taking around 9.5kg of filament - not bad for a 5'7 articulated figure. It wasn't perfect though, the crotch plate exploded post-assembly, which is why it's black, blue and orange. At least plastic is an easy material to weld.
Being a joker, I decided to throw some of my old clothes on it and see if it gave anyone pause. Then I walked out of the room for 5 minutes and startled myself when I came back. Mission accomplished, even if I was not the intended target.
I also printed my elf helmet thing at scale... or so I thought. Turned out to be slightly undersized and just looked weird on top of the model, but it still looks pretty decent despite the printer needing a tune-up by this point.
Post all the nonsense, I have smoothed and reinforced the weak spots on the shell, gave it a quick annealing with a torch, fitted the normal head with an "eye" covered in UV reactive paint, and altered/printed a second version of the head to fit around the original, which is what you can see in the top image.
Fun project, but not for the feint of heart. In order to keep material use down, I printed the shell mostly hollow and used PLA. For the frame, I used PC, ASA and PETG.
I would highly recommend the smaller version; it is an extremely well designed print, and there are lots of custom parts and variations available on Printables. Hard to argue with a figure that you can have Superman punch, or put into Vegeta's classic "low battery" pose.
