I am pleased to introduce SPIRO, a 3D puzzle consisting of 28 pieces: • Six main pieces that are assembled using five dowels; • An additional main piece serving as an alternative for the mouth; • Thirteen other pieces, including the hair, ears, eyebrows, arms and legs; • Three optional pieces: a heart and a two-parts heart.
Assembly requires no screws or glue.
SPIRO is designed to be disassembled and reassembled many times, varying the orientation of its eyebrows and arms to give him the expression you want.
All components can be simultaneously printed on a build plate measuring 220mm by 220mm. The main parts are positioned in a way to ensure smooth curves avoiding a stair-step effect.
Support structures are necessary to support the snap-fit studs of the eyebrows and hair.
Precise clearances have been calculated so that the dowels should slide well into the holes, without wobbling. However, these clearances cannot be guaranteed due to variations in filament types, printing speeds, and machine performances. Therefore, it is advisable to run a test with a single dowel before printing the five dowels needed for assembly.
Technical Specifications
- Model dimensions: 90 x 54 x 116 mm
- Estimated filament needed (including dowels and attachments): 85 g
- Number of pieces: 28
Printing
- Optimal layer height: 0.2 mm
- Print speed: use a slower setting for smaller pieces to achieve greater accuracy.
- Support structures are necessary to support the snap-fit studs of the eyebrows and hair.
- Infill percentage: 15%.
Post-Processing No post-processing is required. All parts can be printed in the same color for a uniform look, or you can print some parts in different colors to personalize SPIRO and make it uniquely yours.
Scalable The main parts are scalable, while the dowels require careful adjustment. For downscaling, I suggest 75% or 50%, adjusting the dimensions of the dowels by printing a Test Dowel first, as mentioned above and further described in the PNG image attached: 'SPIRO_Printing and Scaling'.
Assembly This puzzle is designed to be fun and thought-provoking without being difficult. Consult the Assembly Instructions (PDF included) or try assembling SPIRO without help for a little challenge.
