You are having build adhesion problems ig, try changing skirt to raft.

The supports that are built in are so flimsy and keep breaking before finishing on my attempts. Any tips? I'm printing  using Cura.

Not sure, you could try adding your own supports on the other version.

**Collapsing Candy Cane Sword**
_Print-in-Place Version_

I made a collapsing Candy Cane Sword with a twisting blade!  This version prints in place all as one piece. There is a version with a built in support that saves 40g over standard supports and also a unsupported version.
