BinaryBin – 16-Digit Binary Coded Lockable Container
The BinaryBin is a fully 3D-printable, snap-together locking container powered by a programmable 16-bit binary code. It’s part puzzle, part teaching tool, and 100% nerdy—in the best possible way. What Makes It Special:
- Mechanical DIP-style binary switches (16 total) grouped into 4 nibbles for easy binary → hex conversion
- Orbital gear-driven lock system that only disengages when the correct code is entered
- Programmable mechanism lets you set your own combination
- Non-binary switch state lets you “erase” the visible code after unlocking
- Hexadecimal encoding legend built into the layout (great for teaching or learning)
- Concealed mechanical latches, controlled entirely by the geartrain
- Fully printable — no electronics, no glue, no screws
Educational & Fun Learn (or teach) how binary and hexadecimal systems work—by actually using them. It’s a brainy hands-on demo disguised as a seriously cool lockbox.
Ideal For:
- Puzzle lovers & escape room designers
- STEM educators & students
- Nerdy gift-givers
- Makers and collectors of mechanical marvels
Printing Tips:
- No supports required – all necessary supports are built in
- Includes an optional tool for disassembly
- PLA recommended with standard 0.4mm nozzle
- Full print & slicer settings included in the images
Code it. Turn it. Unlock it. The BinaryBin isn’t just a container—it’s a hands-on lesson in binary logic, gears, and clever design. Post your prints, remix your codes, and share your builds!
Please see the linked video for assembly instructions.

Revisions and Updates I occasionally update and revise my designs. When I do, I’ll document the changes here. Check back periodically for the latest revision notes or if you’re experiencing any issues with a model.
2025-06-10: I have added non-AMS versions of the lid and switch plate.

Hey man great thing to make and I'm sure I'll have all kinds of fun trying to get this printed and working right. Would have been nice had you made a PDF to come alone with the zip file of the steps and settings so we did not have keep coming back to this page over and over again, so I did you a +1 and did the work of making a PDF of the build based off the pics in your posting. Could you reach out to me to let me know how I can get to you so you can put it up and link it in your posting?
Thank you. Email me at logicalplanet3d gmail.com. Very much appreciated. I have an instructional video coming as well. Hopefully post it tomorrow.
As always, it's just a "head off", I'm horrified by your engineering knowledge. _) It's super cool!!! I'm still very impressed with the Phone Multi Widget.
Haha, thanks. I appreciate the encouragement. :-)
