Hey, the Gear Cube is not my original idea. The concept seems to be older than 2010. The first printable version I could find is by Emmett on Thingiverse.

You need: 4 Big Gears 4 Small Gears 8 Connectors 1 Heart There is also an "All" File that has everything you need. Print the files in the "Updated" Folder. They are better and allow for troubleshooting. The Original is just there if anyone who has printed it needs spare parts.

Print settings: No supports needed. Just print with a standard profile. I used a brim for better bed adhesion.

Assembly: Watch this video: https://youtu.be/UGI7HnQgjPs There is also a PDF guide inside the download.

Push the connectors into the heart and then put the gears on top. This one is a little tricky since the gears are variable sizes. You need to connect the ball just like in the picture when it’s a ball. Make sure you assemble the big gears first and that they form half a ball. Then put in the small gears. Use the pictures as guidance.

Troubleshooting:

The Connectors fall out: Scale them in your slicer until they fit. I would start with 102%.

The Connectors Break: I did include stronger connectors in the "Troubleshooting" folder. The higher you go from 1-5, the stronger they get. You can also try printing them in a different filament. Many people had success by using PETG for them; I still use PLA.

The Gears are too tight or too loose: I made a video for this: https://youtu.be/mJWSU6X7Piw Replace only the heart. The troubleshooting folder includes many hearts. If your ball is too tight, they go up into the plus digits. The higher you go, the looser the ball will become. If your ball is too loose, go into the minus digits. The lower you go, the tighter your ball will become. Reassemble your ball with the replaced heart. If it’s still too tight or too loose, go even lower or higher.

None of those above? Try reaching me through Discord: https://discord.gg/P5Prhd2Tbx

Technical Data: The Gear Cube takes around 65g of filament and 3 hours to print.

The filament I used in the pictures is Protopasta Marine Dream Blue.

Great design & Instructions. Printed clean and snapped together easily.
Cool design and fun to play with. Fit is slightly loose, not sure how to fix that.
Awesome work. <3
100% vs 150%!!!!, I LOVE IT!!!! Thanks
Printed really nicely and worked the first time, turning was a bit hard but once you turned it is was way easier

Printed well and went together easily!
This fidget cube is awesome! I keep one at my desk while working. Model is perfect and scales up nicely to 150%. I use a brim on the small gears but not needed if you use a sliceworx plate. The great thing is that the 100% connectors also fit the gear ball so I can batch print them and store in a bin for when I get an order

Really nice model! Printed with Hatchbox True Black and Matt Navy. Very smooth gear motion, and printed easily on a Monoprice Ultimate 2
Printed and works great!

Not crazy about my filament choice which is a color-shift silk pla. The colors never line up and triggers me. 🤪
Printed perfectly. Love it!

This was the first model I printed from Thangs. I really liked the simple model and it printed fine but the gears sometimes skip and the snapping parts kind of hurt my finger. Every printer is slightly different so it's understandable but beginners might struggle a bit. Just print a couple more and you'll get it done! I also made a short showing this print https://youtube.com/shorts/RTPPVb2dW7M

nice!
Printer pretty easily. My core split when putting one of the pivot pieces in, lil glue and it was fine. I think if I printed it again(which I'm going to in gold and silver) I'd use 3 walls and maybe 25 percent infill.

Great model thx for sharing it!
