The R7Makers Ledger | Modular Book Tracker & Mechanical Counter The "How & Why" Behind the Design

I’ll be honest: I initially tried to print this as one solid piece, but the print time was way too long and a single failure was costing me an entire spool. I went back to the drawing board to create a modular, "smart" assembly that actually makes sense for a workshop environment.

The R7Makers Ledger is a tactile, mechanical tracking system. I designed this specific version for the "BookTok" and reading community to track yearly goals (0-999).

Maker-Centric Features:

• Texture Optimized: This model is engineered to be printed face-down. By using a textured PEI plate, you get a professional finish that hides print lines and makes it look like a retail product.
• Modular Reliability: By breaking the cover, pages, and spine into separate parts, you minimize risk. If one part fails, you aren't starting from scratch.
• Zero-Hardware Hinge: No need to source tiny metal pins. The hinge is designed to use a simple strand of 1.75mm PLA or PETG filament.

Production & Assembly Tips:

• Magnets: Designed for 9mm x 3mm circular magnets (4 total). They are a snug press-fit, but a tiny dab of superglue ensures they never budge.
  • Pro-Tip: To get the polarity right, press the magnets into the "pages" first. Then, let the next two magnets snap onto those. Press the lid down onto them to ensure a perfect "click" closure.
• The Hinge: Thread your filament through the spine. I like to take a soldering iron and lightly "mushroom" the ends of the filament for a permanent, clean finish.
• Tight Tolerances: The pages are designed to be a very tight fit into the back cover. This ensures the book feels solid in the hand. A little pressure (and a drop of glue for longevity) goes a long way.
