The Rail Tripod V2

Note that the planters pictured are not included with this model. If you'd like to download them, you can find them here

The first version of the Rail Tripod has become one of my favorite designs, but there is always room for improvement! Here are the main updates to version 2:

  • Instead of using wedges to secure the attachments to the dowel, I added spacers that go in-between each attachment. This makes for a super clean look and each attachment (except the top one) can easily swivel 360 degrees.
  • The spacers can be scaled in the Z direction to accommodate any length of dowel.
  • The top attachment is secured to the top of the dowel using a #8x1 screw. The screw is then hidden by a threaded cap. Make sure you pre-drill using an 1/8" drill bit.
  • Added an optional base that includes threads for sleeves that cover the leg dowels. This maintains the rigidity of the wooden dowel legs while finishing off the aesthetic. You shouldn't have to screw the leg dowels to the base if you go with this option.
  • Included files for 1", 25mm, and 23mm dowels. The metric files are included in two 3mf files. If you need the individual STLs, you can export them from the 3mf's.

The dowels for the legs are meant to be cut into into 10" (254mm) lengths using a miter box and hand saw set (you can find these at any hardware store).

Supports None needed!

Scaling The spacers can be scaled in the Z direction so you can use any length of dowel. I wouldn't recommend scaling any other parts.

Orientation

  • The tripod and leg sleeves print upside down
  • Everything else prints right side up

Print Settings

  • .2mm layer height
  • 15% grid infill
  • 2 walls

Filament

Bambu Lab Matte PLA

Colors I used:

  • Ivory White

Hardware

  • #8x1 screws
  • 2 wooden dowels. I used 36x1" dowels. If outside of the US, you can also use 25mm or 23mm dowels

Filament and non 3D printed items for this model can be found on my Amazon Storefront, linked here: https://linktr.ee/loftedgoods

The Leg Sleeve is 248mm tall, which is just slightly beyond the 220mm limit of my Prusa MK4 printer. Can we get a version of the Leg Sleeves that are 220mm, so they can be printed using the Prusa MK* family of printers?

Would it be possible to get a sliding dovetail that you put two pots on at some point?

It would be awesome if there was a lamp attachment like you have for the vertical rail design. This would make an awesome and unique floor lamp! :)

Bummer, the leg sleeves are too long for my prusa... I'm assuming scaling would ruin the threading??

For the quadpod stand, is there a 1" version? This size does not fit for the 1" dowels and threads

where can i find the vases that will work with this?

I love this! Would you happen to have a tiny filler dowel spacer piece which fits between the top of the curved dovetail attachment with the wedge and the flat ends?
